Celebrating Black History Month
February is Black History Month. Black History Month originated
with an African American named Carter G. Woodson, who in the 1920's
created and promoted Negro History Week. Woodson chose this period
in February because it included the birthdays of Frederick Douglass
and Abraham Lincoln. In 1976, the month-long celebration was implemented.
GAVELNET.COM was pleased to observe this celebration with a special
collection of works by African and African American artists.

included the album "Hey Jude" signed by all four Beatles,
a signed photo of Elvis Presley, a Nirvana poster signed by the
late Kurt Cobain, and 8 signed guitars once owned by the artists
from Bob Dylan to Billy Joel, Pete Townsend to Sting. However,
it was the 1946 Rockola Jukebox featuring original records from
artists such as Buddy Holly that prompted a war of bidding paddles,
ultimately commanding a winning bid of more than $5,700.
